Environmental initiatives

Effects on on-time operations and the environment

We strive for on-time departures, as delays increase ground time, which in turn increases CO2 emissions through the extended use of the auxiliary power unit (APU).
For example, consider a departure delayed by three minutes.

  • The APU is used to provide internal power and air conditioning → approx. 15 L of fuel
  • Increased taxiing speed to depart on-time → approx. 170 L of fuel

<Environmental Impact from a Three-Minute Departure Delay>

A total of approx. 468kg of CO2 ⇒ equivalent to the amount of CO2
absorbed by about 33 cedar trees in a year
(One cedar tree absorbs about 14 kg of CO2/year)

Introduction of electric vehicles

We are transitioning to electric vehicles with low CO2 emissions for company vehicles used in our daily operations.
We plan to expand the use of electric vehicles to a wide variety of uses, including baggage transport.

< CO2 Reductions from First Five Company Evs >

CO2 emissions in FY2024 compared to FY2019

50% (approx. 7.58t, approx. 1.52t / vehicle)reduction

*Assuming a 100% decrease in CO2 emissions by switching from gasoline to electricity

Initiatives to combat food loss

We participate in activities to provide food to those who need it free of charge, donating edible food that would be discarded, such as leftover corporate or household food supplies.

By monitoring the number of inflight meals discarded daily and placing precise orders whenever possible,we are reducing food waste and helping to decarbonize society.

Social contributions

Eco-caps

We collect caps from plastic bottles.
The collected caps are sold as recyclable materials by recovery companies, and the proceeds are used to fund vaccine shipments to developing countries.

Stationery donations to children

We collect surplus stationery and other unused office supplies to provide essential items to children living on the streets or in facilities in the Philippines who cannot live with their parents.
We are joined by JAL Group companies in the Narita area and Bengaluru Airport staff in India.

Vaccines from old clothing

We participate in an initiative that provides vaccines to children around the world. For every kilogram of collected clothing, five vaccines are delivered to children.

Governance

We maintain an awareness that our corporate group is a member of society at large with the duty to fulfill our corporate social responsibility and contribute to society as we develop our business, in addition to fulfilling our financial responsibility of earning adequate profits by providing high-quality products through fair competition while maintaining flight safety as the leading company of safety in the transportation sector and providing unparalleled service to our customers.
